Parent and Prep Committees
We consider ourselves a family of families here at the Native School. If you would like to contribute to our class, one great way to do so is by signing up for a Class or School Committee. Please see role requirements and sign up links below!
Participation in specific events is voluntary - requested work tasks will be communicated periodically and you may assist with whichever you like.
CLASS PARENT
As a Class Parent you would be responsible for leadership, communication, & collaboration with the families in your child’s class, including:
Being head of the Class Prep Committee & communicating additional prep needs to the committee as requested by the teachers.
Take the lead on coordinating supply collection and preparation.
Soliciting contact info from parents that wish to share their contact details with those in the class for the purpose of setting up playdates & independent events such as birthday parties, etc. - a form for families to fill out will be provided.
Being aware of what projects the Work Crew is engaging in and requesting extra help from class families as needed.
Being part of the Events Committee for your location and communicating information about events to families in your class as needed.
Being the liaison with the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation or San Dieguito Park to facilitate events like group gardening, etc - an email contacts & introductions will be provided.
prep parent
As a member of this committee you would be responsible for assisting with planning, communicating, and preparing for events & celebrations that are class specific, such as:
Holiday celebrations
Fundraisers
Graduation (kinder only)
Other gatherings & events
And/or assisting with collection and preparation of material needed for the class, such as:
Helping prepare materials for class every few weeks, such as homemade playdough or garden clippings
Collecting and bringing in small natural loose parts such as shells, seed pods, roots, pinecones, flowers, rocks, ect
Occasionally supplying materials for special projects that teachers do not have on hand
You may choose to sign up to bring in any of the following:
2 batches of home-made play dough. Refer to the instructions sheet for how to make it. If you’d like, you can add your twist by adding colors/scents.
Sensory box or other sensory based exploration item - i.e sensory jars, sensory bags based on our current curriculum
Bubble juice
Garden cuttings or natural materials for our construction provocation. These could be leaves, plants and flowers from your yard. If you do collect from the “wild” please ensure you are gathering only fallen plant parts or invasive species. This is a great opportunity to practice being animal and plant protectors!

As a member of this committee you would be responsible for assisting with planning/communicating/preparing/engaging in class events & celebrations that are location specific such as:
Location-wide fundraisers, markets, and gatherings
Location-wide holiday celebrations
Other events & celebrations that involve just those at your child’s location
Note that participation in specific events is voluntary - requested work tasks will be communicated periodically and you may sign up to assist with whichever you like
school wide Work Crew Committee
As a member of this committee, you would be responsible for assisting with planning/communicating/preparing/engaging in whole-family tasks school-wide such as:
Helping with event setup or construction
Planting trees or other plants at either location (San Dieguito Park or Batiquitos Lagoon)
Picking up trash at either location
Constructing items for either location (San Dieguito Park or Batiquitos Lagoon) such as benches, birdhouses, ect.
Other group tasks that involve both parents & children from all class locations
Year-end camping trip support (steps & roles will be outlined)

OTHER ROLES
Your child’s specific class may have other roles needed depending on the class’s individual needs, scheduling, and composition. Connect with your teachers to learn more about how you can help!
